Organizing doctors in your institution is the first step toward giving doctors a greater voice on the job.  The NDA/SEIU will assign experienced staff who are dedicated to organizing and will provide you and your colleagues with the assistance you will need to run an organizing campaign at your institution.  The first steps for organizing are as follows:

1.    A majority of doctors in your institution must support the union and they must sign a card that clearly states they wish to be represented by the union.

2.    Once the cards have been received and verified, National Doctors Alliance/SEIU  will request,  recognition of the union from the employer.

3.    If the request for voluntary recognition is denied, National Doctors Alliance/SEIU  will request an election from  the National Labor Relations Board.  The labor board will then notify the employer that an election will be held, and the labor board official will supervise and oversee the election process.  Voting is conducted by secret ballot.

4.       You win union recognition if a total of 50% plus 1  of the  voters casting their vote for the union.  By winning the election, you win the right to sit down with your employer to collectively bargain a contract.  Strong unity among the doctors brings greater strength and power to the bargaining table.
